FAQs: Treatment Centers & Clinical Facilities
How do I find a treatment center my city or a specific clinical facility on Sana Network? You can find specialized care facilities by selecting “Treatment Centers” or a specific facility type from our provider menu. Enter your city or zip code to view local options. Our directory allows you to filter by the level of care required, such as Residential, Intensive Outpatient (IOP), or Integrated Healthcare—as well as by specialty, insurance accepted, and facility size.
What types of facilities are included in the Sana Network? Our directory includes a comprehensive range of clinical settings to ensure you find the right environment for your recovery, including:
Inpatient & Residential: Hospitals, Psychiatric Facilities, Residential Treatment Centers (RTC), and Behavioral Health Residential Facilities (BHRF).
Outpatient & Community: Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), Community Mental Health Centers (CMHC), and Integrated Healthcare Clinics.
Private & Specialty: Group Private Practices, Multidisciplinary Clinics, and Medical Clinics.
Are these facilities licensed and accredited? No. Although many facilities listed on Sana Network maintain valid state licensure (such as through the Department of Health Services) appropriate to their facility type there are some type of facilities that are not required by law to maintain a valid state license such as private practices. However, many of our listed centers also hold national accreditation from organizations such as The Joint Commission (JCAHO) or CARF, signaling a commitment to the highest standards of clinical quality.
What is the difference between an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a Residential facility? The primary difference is the “Level of Care” and time commitment:
Residential/Inpatient: Provides 24/7 supervised care in a structured environment. This is typically for individuals requiring stabilization or high-level support for complex mental health or substance use concerns.
Intensive Outpatient (IOP): Provides a “step-down” or “step-up” level of care. Patients live at home but attend the facility for several hours a day, multiple days a week, for structured group and individual therapy.
Can these centers provide medical treatment or prescribe medication? Many of the facilities in our directory, particularly Hospitals, Psychiatric Facilities, and Medical Clinics, are equipped with medical staff (Psychiatrists, MDs, or PMHNPs) who can provide medical detox, medication management, and physical health screenings. However, some private practices or residential facilities may focus strictly on behavioral health and will coordinate with external medical providers for your prescriptions.
Do I need a referral to admit to a treatment center? It depends on the facility and your insurance. For acute care (Hospitals/Psychiatric Facilities), admission often happens through an emergency department or a direct clinical referral. For IOPs or Residential Treatment, you can often reach out directly for a “Clinical Assessment.” We recommend checking with the facility to see if your insurance requires a “Prior Authorization” or a referral from your primary care provider before admission.
How much does treatment cost and is insurance accepted? Treatment costs vary significantly based on the level of care and length of stay. Many facilities on Sana Network accept commercial insurance, and community-based centers often accept Medicaid or offer sliding-scale fees. Integrated clinics may also accept Medicare. Because facility billing can be complex, we recommend using our insurance filters and contacting the facility’s admissions department to verify your specific coverage and out-of-pocket costs.
Will I be working with licensed professionals or students? Treatment centers often utilize a “multidisciplinary team” approach. This may include Licensed Psychologists, Clinical Social Workers, and Medical Staff. Many facilities also serve as training sites for the next generation of clinicians. In these cases, you may work with residents, interns, or associates who are highly trained and practice under the strict supervision of an independently licensed Clinical Director.
Are these facilities confidential? Yes. All clinical facilities on Sana Network are mandated “Covered Entities” under HIPAA. This means your presence in treatment, your diagnosis, and your clinical records are protected by federal law. Information can only be shared with your written consent, except in specific emergency situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or as required by a court order.
