Welcome to Whole Human Psychiatry, the office of Dr Lisa E. Goldman. I am an independent board certified psychiatrist and psychotherapist in private practice. My office is tiny, I have no staff, and I spend time with my patients getting to know them really well. I specialize in ADHD, mood disorders and serving the LGBTQ community, as well as providing outpatient psychiatric care for doctors and other helping professionals.
I have made it my life’s work to prevent physician suicide, having lost a colleague to suicide who I believe would have still been alive, had she chosen any field other than medicine. I am here to serve doctors, medical students and other healing professionals. I think psychiatry is fun and I love helping people discover how strong, intelligent, capable and awesome they really are!
I have medical licenses in Arizona and Tennessee, three decades of experience as a Social Worker, and a fierce commitment to serving underserved people. I have gotten off the conveyor belt of big-box medicine and I subscribe to the Ideal Medical Care Movement*. I serve the interests of patients, not big pharma, hospital administrators or parasitic insurance companies.
Patients come to see me when they are looking for highly individualized patient focused psychiatry and psychotherapy. I do not practice “drive-by” psychiatry. If you are looking for 15 minute visits for “medication management” once every three months then I am not a good choice of doctor for you. I offer a therapeutic relationship to all my patients, as I do not believe in prescribing pills in a vacuum. I spend unhurried time with each patient at every visit because I emphasize the patient-doctor relationship over and above the pursuit of insurance revenue. At Whole Human Psychiatry, I serve patients. Not insurance companies.
I treat anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar spectrum mood disorders, and ADHD. I enjoy serving bright, introspective, creative, offbeat non-conformists, LGBTQ folks, and helping professionals. I don’t treat all conditions and I am not the best fit for everyone. I’m a psychiatrist who specializes in caring for bright, highly motivated, creative people who have decided that they want to lead more joyous, more purposeful and more intentional lives.
Doctors, medical students and physicians in training face stressors unknown to to the general population, and the suicide rate for doctors exceeds that of the general population by a factor of double to four fold the rate of death by suicide compared to the general population.
The Dream that brought us to the medicine and other healing professions in the first place may have gotten crushed under the weight of shame, isolation and self neglect that results from our being used as commodities in an economic exchange that benefits corporate interests but leaves patients with crappy care and leaves healers feeling exhausted, depleted and worthless. I am the doctors’ psychiatrist, an off the grid independent who protects the confidentiality of doctors in a secure space that protects wounded healers from exposure or scrutiny they could be subjected to in other settings.
Whole Human Psychiatry practice policies:
- There are no refills without an office visit.
- I can help people “bill their own insurance company” but I don’t take insurance.
- There is a charge for missed appointments.
- I do not provide “crisis service” or emergency psychiatry. I have no office staff, no answering service and I turn my phone off at night so I can sleep.
- If you are having a life threatening health crisis, please do not delay. Call 911 or head for the nearest emergency department.
For “Xanax mill prescribing”, tons of paperwork to fill out, rushed, impersonal, reductionistic or production driven psychiatry, please seek help elsewhere. For joyful, highly personalized and grounded psychiatry and psychotherapy, please come see me.
